I was talking to a friend I hadn’t seen since we moved to Fairhope, AL, almost 3 years ago now, and we were both struggling to describe our feelings about all the stress of waiting this year. Waiting for the never-knowing-when-this-will-all-end… to end! The word we came up with was “covid fatigue”. Turns out, we didn’t invent the word, after all. Google reports the first use of it back in late February.
But what I do know, as an innkeeper at Jubilee Suites, is most of our guests this year have come here to escape it, to escape from the fatigue of waiting.
- Waiting for children to finish their virtual homework so we can teach them something else.
- Waiting to escape being cooped up together in our homes.
- Waiting for the time when we can safely hug our friends again.
- Waiting to gather lots of friends together at home for dinner and silly board games.
- Waiting for our jobs and classrooms to go back where they came from.
- Waiting for weekends to feel like something to look forward to again.
- Waiting for simple pleasures like movies, concerts, dancing, even church to feel safe again.
- Waiting to see if our plans to get together for the holidays are even possible this year.
- Waiting to see if our far-flung, even-more-impatient adult children stay healthy.
- Waiting for our lives to return to what passes for normal.
As John Mayer wrote in his beautiful anthem, we’re waiting on the world to change.
But something else I know as an innkeeper at Jubilee Suites, because I’ve seen it over and over, is that a 3-day stay here is about the right amount of time to rejuvenate people, both body and soul. We’ve watched tired families reunite when they’re here. Free from the confines of their homes and able to space out all over our beach and grounds, we’ve seen families come together to simply play like they haven’t in months.
Couples too! The view of Mobile Bay here is indescribable and there’s something about it that’s healing for couples who’ve been bottling up stress for months. Some of the sweetest times have been the weddings here this fall. Families and friends who gather during this season to witness a dear one’s wedding seem to feel even more love than usual. We feel it too!
Wouldn’t it be great to bless your sweetheart or your family this holiday season with 3 days of peace, of love, of rejuvenation? Three whole mornings drinking coffee while taking in the sparkling waters of Mobile Bay from your private balcony or patio, shorebirds overhead in the clear blue sky carrying fish home for breakfast. Three whole days spent feeling safe while enjoying all our carefully-curated guest experiences like kayaking, spa treatments in your suite, visiting our charming little town, trying something new like yoga on the bluff, or an art lesson, or a cooking class and dinner in your suite. Three whole evenings around the firepit sipping wine and meeting new friends while enjoying a nightly sunset celebration that often goes far past the twilight. It’s a gift that keeps on giving when you’re all back home because the memories are so sweet.
You know what they want this holiday season. And you can give it to them along with the gift of anticipation of good things happening in 2021. See our Suites page to choose your accommodations. Each 1 or 2 bedroom suite is individually decorated and loaded with luxurious amenities designed to soothe your senses and comfort your tired body. Contact us if you’d like a gift certificate so you’ve got something super-special to put under the tree this December, something they’ll cherish for years to come.
2020 has been a year to remember for all of of us. Around here, we see what people are going through, how they arrive and how they leave. They also tell us in their Google reviews how magical this place is and how they found what they were looking for. Let us do the same for you this holiday season. 2021 is right around the corner. Let’s make it different. Together.
