It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. And I’m sure I don’t need to mention the reason why… (shhhh COVID-19)! Let’s just say “social distancing” has become more than a new vocabulary word– it’s been a game-changer in more ways than one. But as the news just keeps on coming, we’ve learned to turn it off at the end of each day and simply enjoy the solitude and sunsets that Jubilee Suites offers.
Jim and I are feeling so blessed to be here in Fairhope, AL. We’re among new friends and new experiences in our beautifully renovated boutique hotel and we love what we’re doing. Because we’re in a quiet residential neighborhood, we don’t see a lot of people very often. Every evening we stop work and watch the sunset together, often with some of our guests. Lately, the sunsets have been magnificent. I’m told they are extra magnificent this time of the year.
Very few of our guests have canceled their plans with us. Some are still coming simply to rest from the noisy world. It’s a perfect place to do that. Bring your family and stay awhile. You can also bring your pets if you’d like to rent one of our pet-friendly suites. Reconnect over nature and outdoor living. We have lots of parks, piers, and beaches in Fairhope and they are all still open for “unorganized usage” according to the Fairhope City website, including the Mike Ford Tennis Center and Quail Creek Golf Club. And the population density is low here so there is always a place to be alone and practice social distancing.
Are you feeling stuck working at home? Why not work here? With schools and youth sports canceling, it’s easy to start feeling crazy trying to work at home and keeping the kids entertained as well. Bring the family if you all need a change of scenery. We’ve got fantastic views of Mobile Bay and a large beach to keep especially grade-school-age kids busy. We also have the connectivity and the peace and quiet you need to work well here. Think about it and check availability here.
Some of our guests are coming to play golf. Neither Jim nor I play golf but the weather here makes it an ideal fresh air sport much of the year. And we’ve got some beautiful public golf courses and a couple of tournaments coming up in April to benefit two local non-profits. At Rock Creek Golf Club, kids play free with a paying adult. And if you’ve got a Robert Trent Jones Golf Card, give Lakewood Country Club a call and see if you can set up a tee time there. Get your own cart and do a little social distancing while you’re working off cabin fever with your family.
Since most of our suites are fully furnished apartment-like homes away from home with their own entrances, individual air handling systems, and full kitchens, you don’t have to worry about eating out. In fact, many of our restaurants have already closed indoor dining and are offering take out or take and bake options instead. Curbside pickup is also available at most of the restaurants we love. Our grocery stores are offering delivery services too so that’s one less thing to think about. Either option lets you enjoy cooking together as a family and eating in the privacy and cleanliness of our pristine suites, which have always been thoroughly sanitized between guests.
Want more ideas? Here’s to falling in love with nature again and creating your own personal wellness event! We’ve got some beautiful walking and hiking trails here and most of the time they are completely uncrowded. The City of Fairhope has also added miles and miles of sidewalks all through our streets and it is quite simple to leave your suite’s front door, walk for an hour or so and see almost no one. Your suite also has lots of room and we have lots of outdoor spaces perfect for practicing yoga. Great for getting a little stress-reducing exercise with your social distancing!
And how about our bike trails? The Eastern Shore Trail mixed-use trail runs 28 miles and links 3 communities, including Fairhope. This beautiful walking/biking trail provides an opportunity to see our area up close as well as lots of wildlife, flowers, creeks, and state champion trees. We can show you where to get on the trail and maps are also available at the link above. Bring your own bikes or you can rent them right in Fairhope so you can practice social distancing out in the beautiful natural world. The weather is perfect right now.
If you have your heart set on going to the beach, we’ve got one here. Our 200 feet of beachfront on Mobile Bay is perfect for relaxing, fishing, kayaking, yoga, and paddle boarding. Bring your own fishing poles but we’ve got kayaks and paddleboards here for our guests’ free use. Nothing like social distancing out in the middle of Mobile Bay.
So if the prospect of endless days at home sounds like one big bore to you, consider social distancing with us at Jubilee Suites. If you’ve already got a reservation, you might want to keep it. We’re off the beaten track and it’s easy to be alone here. If you’d prefer to change your existing reservation, you can pick out new dates or cancel it, but no need to hurry. We will offer you a full refund anytime you’ve finalized your plans. And if, like us, you’re optimistic that life will eventually go on, check out our booking calendar on our website- go here and click on Check Availability– and behold all the open dates! Wouldn’t you like to have something to look forward to? It’s the right time to plan a family stay for 2021. But if you know you want to cancel or you just want some help deciding what to do, contact us and we’ll take care of you.
None of us knows what tomorrow will bring… but probably more change since change is happening constantly. Meanwhile, stay healthy and love each other. Take time to get outdoors, get some exercise and fresh air, eat healthy food, and reconnect with family and nature. Enjoy our sunsets at Jubilee Suites or look for your own. We’re going to be here for the long run and we’ll meet each other one day soon. Love never fails.
